The Criminal Justice/Police Science program focuses on career preparation in various criminal justice fields and correctional systems. The program is designed to provide a broad-based introduction to criminal justice and correctional systems, as well as provide training in specialized fields including law enforcement of adults and juveniles, the court system, jails, prisons, community corrections, intermediate corrections, and juvenile correctional facilities.
For a degree in criminal justice students must complete the specified criminal justice and corrections courses along with the requirements for an Associate of Arts degree. For those students who have completed the police academy, please speak to the program advisor for credit for training.
Students may also complete a certificate program in Criminal Justice/Police Science. The certificate program is recommended for students who are not seeking an academic or technical degree and do not intend to transfer to a four-year institution. Completion of the certificate program requires 30 credit hours.
For a student who wants a career as a police officer or corrections officer at the local, county or state level, this program provides all the necessary coursework to earn an Associate of Arts degree and exceed the minimum qualifications for those positions. Associate degree holders are qualified to handle the following jobs:
For a student who wanting a career with the federal agencies, this program provides the student with 50% of the courses required by a four-year university. A bachelor’s degree is required for these positions.
