When will I receive my housing assignment?

All housing contracts and application fees need to be received by the date listed on our Payment Schedule for the following school year. All housing assignments will be subject to availability. Room assignments are made upon arrival of housing contracts and application fees. Roommate assignments are made shortly thereafter. You will be notified via mail of your assignments. If you’re wanting to save on your utilities, you could look at sites such as Usave energy and others.

What is the deadline to cancel my room reservation?

  • Fall semester: July 1
  • Spring semester: December 15
  • Summer I & II: May 10

Can I get my application fee back if I change my mind about attending DC3 and living on campus?

Per our Terms and Conditions the application fee is non-refundable.

The application fee is used to cover the administrative and technology costs associated with managing your Housing application and completing the room assignment process.

What types of residence halls do you have?

DC3 has four residence halls: Becker, Coleman-Webb, Jackson and Shelden. The halls are usually separated into all-male or all-female. Becker and Shelden were constructed using the same floor plan. Coleman-Webb has two single rooms connected via a bathroom. Jackson Hall is suite style, thus two single rooms share a common space.

What sort of amenities are there?

Becker, Jackson and Shelden residence halls have kitchens on each floor equipped with a stove and microwave. Each residence hall lobby has a big screen smart TV with vending machines and plenty of seating. There are card-operated laundry facilities in each hall. Wi-Fi and cable are available in all buildings.

When do the residence halls open?

The residence halls usually open the Sunday prior to the first day of classes. See the DC3 Calendar for specific dates.

What is the earliest that I can submit my Residence Life contract and application fee?

The Residence Life/Housing Department is always accepting Residence Hall contracts prior to the upcoming semester.

Can I choose my roommate?

Students can request a roommate on their housing contract. The Residence Life Department will try to accommodate each request but cannot guarantee that all requests will be granted. DC3 is a non-discriminatory campus and follows the first-come-first-serve method for housing. Thus, both roommates must submit contracts and application fees at similar times to improve chances of placement together.

Can I get a private room?

Private rooms are not available at Dodge City Community College at this time.

How many students live on campus each year?

On average, about 350 students live on campus each year.

When will I know which residence hall I have been assigned and who my roommate will be?

Room assignments are made upon arrival of housing contracts and application fees. Roommate assignments are made shortly thereafter. You will be notified via mail of your assignments.

How are residence hall and roommate assignments made?

Room assignments are made on a first-come-first-serve basis, and are based on the date the housing contract and application fee are received. The Residence Life office strives to honor roommate requests. Students making specific roommate requests should submit their contracts and application fees early and simultaneously with the student with whom they wish to room with. Residence Life attempts to meet all roommate requests, but, unfortunately, we are not able to grant every request.

Can I change roommates or residence halls once I arrive?

Residents are required to wait 14 days after the first day of class to request a roommate or residence hall change. Room or hall changes are granted based on room change procedures and availability of space.

Who is in charge of the residence halls?

Each Residence Hall has a Residence Life Hall Director and a Resident Assistant. Residence Life Hall Directors are professional staff members that live in the Residence Halls among the students and are responsible for residents. The Residence Life Hall Director is responsible for supervising student staff and the daily management of the Residence Life areas. Resident Assistants live among the residents as well, and are responsible for creating programs and peer counseling in their living areas. The Residence Life staff provides assistance to residents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

What is the difference between a Residence Life Hall Director and a Resident Assistant?

Residence Life Hall Directors are professional staff members who oversee the residence halls. Resident Assistants are student staff who can help guide students to get any help they may need while living on campus.

If I have problems in my residence hall room, what should I do?

You are encouraged to contact your Residence Assistant. You can also contact the Residence Life on call phone at (620) 255-2872 for any reason. If you need additional assistance or information, you can also contact the Residence Life office at (620) 227-9304 between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday through Friday, and we will assist you in finding answers to help solve your problem.

Are the residence halls safe?

We make every effort to create a safe living environment for all residents. The Residence Life staff (Residence Life Hall Directors and Resident Assistants) are trained to monitor and report various safety concerns. Emergency procedures are addressed each semester with the residents. Residents are required to have their doors/windows locked at all times, whether they are in their room or whether they are away.

Are pets allowed in the residence halls?

Pets are not allowed in any of the Dodge City Community College residence halls.

Does Dodge City Community College sell insurance for property loss or damaged within the residence halls?

No, but we strongly recommend contacting your insurance company on this issue. The college is not responsible for any damage, theft, or other actions to your personal property. It is the responsibility of the property owner to protect his/her personal belongings.

Can I smoke in my room?

No. All residence life facilities and outside areas are smoke-free. Smoking is allowed only in designated areas on campus. Electronic cigarettes and other vape items are considered smoking, and strictly prohibited. Please see a Resident Life staff member for more information.

How many semester hours are required in order to live in college housing?

Each student must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours before being allowed to move in to college housing. Residents must maintain 12 semester hours during the semester to remain in housing.

If I decide to move out/check out of the residence halls, do I get a refund of the room/board charges?

The room and board payment is broken up into the room portion, which is refundable, and the board portion (meals) which is refundable back to the resident. The board portion (meals) is pro-rated, and the cost of all uneaten meals is refunded. Please note that once students move into the residence halls and becomes a resident, they are obligated to the full cost of the room portion of the room/board charges.

What is the disciplinary point system?

The disciplinary point system has proven to be an effective method for us to hold the residents accountable for their actions. It has also shown a record of fairness in handling discipline issues. Each Dodge City Community College Residence Life violation has points associated with it, and residents have a right to dispute any violation. For more information, view the Student Handbook.

What actions can lead to automatic removal from the Resident Life Program?

Certain acts, including—but not limited to—assault, drugs, drug paraphernalia, theft, weapons, threats, and bullying, are sanctioned with immediate removal from the residence halls.

Are residents allowed to gather and hang out outside of their residence halls?

Dodge City Community College has a loitering policy that requires all residents to be inside their residence hall, campus building, or off campus after midnight. Quiet hours begin each night at 10:00 pm. Groups of seven (7) or more are not allowed to gather after midnight. If you have questions, please contact a Resident Life staff member.

Is there a curfew on campus?

No, there is not a curfew assigned through the residence life office. Coaches may assign curfew as they see fit. Residents are allowed to come and go freely, but are not allowed to gather outside or hang out after midnight.

What is the visitation policy?

The visitation policy outlines when residents are allowed to have guests in their rooms. For more information, see the Residence Life Handbook.

Will I have room checks each week?

Health and safety inspections are scheduled at random and are conducted by a professional staff member at least once a month.

How do I receive mail?

Residents may have items shipped to them with the following information:

Students are assigned mailbox numbers upon arrival. Students are notified of packages by way of a notification slip in their mailboxes.
